We need a new Webmaster!
As I'm not longer directly involved with Troop 604 (Ian has dropped out of scouting, anyways, he will be 18 in a couple months), I'd like to ask for a new troop webmaster to step up and replacement my negligent shoes... I'm happy to continue hosting the troop website on my servers, as well as the mailing lists, as this doesn't cost me anything, but the troop deserves an active updated website with fresh and dynamic content.
I created a framework for a new website some months ago, but no one stepped up to help contribute content or take over day-to-day management of it. This new framework is still online, at http://new.troop604.org/ and is designed to allow updating by multiple people who aren't directly familiar with website building. I'm more than willing to provide whatever help and informal training I can to whomever wants to step up and take on this webmaster role. Among other things, this framework allows for the scoutmaster (and any other leaders or scouts) to keep a 'blog', its 'news story' oriented, and I can add a photo album feature to it so troop members can upload their own photos. it will allow multiple people to submit content, add events to the calendar, and so forth. I can also add a 'secure' area that only registered troop members could view, if thats useful (for instance, for troop directory and phone number lists, private announcements, etc).
The framework has provisions for fancier things like polls, signup lists, etc. An important feature is that it supports different levels of registered users, such as "editor", "leader", "parent", and "scout" and we can assign different capabilities and permissions to these different user groups (both the actual groups and their capabilities/permsisions are VERY flexible and can easily be configured). Just as soon as someone takes responsibility for managing this, and adds sufficient content for this to replace our old, stale, site, I'll cut over so it is http://troop604.org/ and www.troop604.org and drop the old stale site I created years ago...
Again, I will remain available for technical assistance...
